Burnt toast in RTP?

I know I have some readers that either live or work in Research Triangle Park. I have been working here for over a year and occasionally some mornings, as soon as I exit the Durham Freeway, I smell burned toast. It's not my car. I can smell it when I get out at work. Anyone know what's up with the burnt toast in RTP? It's been particularly strong a couple of days this week. And yes I smelled this prior to having a spidey-sense of smell :)

I am pretty sure that it is the coffee roasters (I think it's Counter Culture?) that is right by where "our" old office was. I smell it a lot, too. http://www.counterculturecoffee.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=389&Itemid=74

Minna I think you are absolutely right! Because of where they are, it makes perfect sense! I used to smell it when I came up 54 too. I wonder why it smells like burnt toast and not lovely brewed coffee? Genious!!! Thank you!

I know - I always wonder if they burned a batch, but then I figure that roasting the beans must smell a lot stronger than brewing it. And then I'm glad that my house doesn't have to smell like burnt toast every morning! (Or at least most mornings! ;)
