Need help from my Durham people!

This is bad. I haven't had my hair cut in almost a year. I had been growing it out for the wedding and then I was just pulling it into a ponytail each day because of the heat. Now I want it cut. I just called to make an appointment and my stylist is no longer at the salon I went to. Help! I don't trust the $10 haircut places. I want someone that wants to give me the best cut they can. Got any suggestions? I'd like to stay in Durham or maybe even Chapel Hill.

I really like The Garden Salon in downtown Durham. They have scheduling online so you don't even have to call (a big plus for me, 'cause I work nights and sleep during business hours. The girls are really nice, the cut is always great and it's not crazy spendy. If you go there, try Erin. She's the one that always does my hair. www.gardensalon.com

I got my last haircut at the Aveda Institute in Chapel HIll. The girl who cut it has since graduated but did a really good job. I would definitely go back to see a different student. Prices are reasonable and they have a no tipping allowed policy! Other bonuses are that you get a free mini-facial and you can even have your hair washed while lying down, feet/knees propped up by bolsters. Very relaxing!

Check out their web site at http://WWW.AVEDACHAPELHILL.COM/.

Love the Aveda school. I had a great colorist last time (shh!) but unfortunately she was graduating that week. I asked about Aveda salons in Durham, and several people around me recommended Wavelengths on 9th Street. Have not tried them yet, but will in about, oh, 4 weeks. :)

Thanks for the feedback guys. I talked to another friend last night who recommended Wavelengths as well. I'm going to give them a shot, but boy does that aveda school sound like a great deal! Maybe for my trims I'll go there!

I too recently went to Wavelengths and had Whitney cut my hair. I loved her because she explained to me why she was doing the steps she was doing. And she also kept her promise to not make my hair look like a mushroom. It was a $40 wash and cut, no dry. (919) 416-9705

I also love love love Tracy Swain in Carrboro who owns Mane Street hair salon (her one woman show next to Mama Dips). She is only $30 and I trust her with all of my heart. (919) 357-1588

Excellent news! Best of luck. Haircuts for me are always nerve wracking. But you are in good hands with Whitney.

Blo at Brier Creek is pretty convenient for you, and it ROCKS. I see Rachael, but all the stylists are talented. And you can get a glass of wine while you wait. The shampoo chairs are massage chairs. You can leave with a Blo pop to boot. Check it out at justblo.com
